A Death In The Family

KOTEBE -- SEPTEMBER 27, 2013 -- As a parent, if you knew you only had 16 days to live, what would you do?

No doubt, you would do everything in your power to ensure your children would be taken care of Hug them as tightly as you could and assure them that everything would be okay.

Mothers in the Cooperative are no different, except for this one thing: they don't have the luxury of financial security for their children. There is no safety net, Living hand-to-mouth, they rely on The Muday Association to help them provide a roof over their heads and food for themselves and their kids.

One of the mothers passed away today, leaving three children behind. No husband, no savings, no property. Her only "family" consists of the moms in the Cooperative, and Muday.

This group picture of the mothers in the Cooperative was taken on the Ethiopian New Year, September 11, 2013. The beautiful lady in the back passed away today.

Sixteen days ago, her kids started their school year, on a campus that had just been partially destroyed. Their mother's death was not expected. It doesn't matter, though, does it? Losing a parent is traumatic, as anyone who has lost one can attest. Imagine her three children: no dad, no grandma, no aunts or uncles. They have no one. None of the other mothers has the means to support them.

And so Muday is taking them in. The kids will join the other children who have no family, ones whose parents have died since they started school at the Academy.

Financially, Muday is struggling. Now she has three more children to provide for. If you can help, even a small amount, please give what you can. If you wish for your donation to go specifically for these recent orphans, please drop us a note here and we will make sure it goes directly to them.

Thank you, as always, for your generosity.
